President & CEO of Testability, Inc.
I never really knew what I wanted to be growing up and frankly the jury is still out. As a boy, I wanted to drive bulldozers when I grew up so of course I ended up in software.
After nearly 10 years in the Air Force, I was offered an early separation bonus in 1994 and after paying off my debts, I was left with approximately $8.12 in my account. My wife Andrea having just moved from Germany informed me shortly after I separated that she would be having a baby the following July.
It was at that very moment I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up which was employed with health insurance. That’s what I wanted to be.
Ironically, I fell into the IT industry by accident with the help of the Air Force’s employment transition program and was hired by the State of Arkansas to collect data for a large statewide data conversion project along with writing and testing COBOL programs. I had never done that sort of work during my military career so I was perfect for the job, cheap with no experience.
This was my first taste of the dynamics on a large software development project between the customer, the prime vendor, sub-contractors, end users, staffing, bill rates, contracts and how badly I disliked COBOL.
In retrospect, it was this project that planted the early seed that would eventually lead me to start my own company which I did a few years later.
With over 50,000 software project hours and multiple clients, I understand the intricacies and challenges of designing, developing and deploying software and try and utilize these experiences to determine the right consultants for our projects.
For the past decade, I have operated in the role of Testing Manager for a large tracking system for reportable diseases for the State of Florida, Dept. of Health and continue to staff additional IT resources when necessary to support the projects initiatives.
On a personal note, I grew up a preacher’s kid in the Midwest. I was born in Minnesota, spent my early years in Iowa, my teen years in Missouri and at 19 was sent on an all-expenses paid road trip by the DOD which included stops in Texas, Ohio, England, Germany and finally Arkansas. Aim High!
I’ve been married to Andrea since 1994 and together we have 2 fantastic children Paige and Jordan, both who live, work and go to school in Tallahassee, Florida.
We also have 3 additional grown children, 2 sons in Germany and 1 daughter in Ohio and 4 awesome grandchildren.
When I’m not trying to find defects in software or find the right talent to augment our customer’s projects, I enjoy working out, biking, swimming, lifting weights and playing other sports. I especially enjoy Florida State football even though I’m a Midwestern transplant and I’m in band called “The 850” a classic rock cover band in which I play the drums.
If you want to know more about me, my background, our company or how we can help just reach out to me!
